About the Course
Cognitive Enrichment-1 is a cognitive intervention program that can be applied in a one-on-one setting or in the classroom. For individuals with special needs, it is used as a remediation program, while for higher-functioning learners, it is utilized as an enrichment tool. To date, the program has been successfully used in the following frameworks:
Enrichment programs for underachieving, regular, and gifted schoolchildren;
Learning enhancement programs for immigrants and students from cultural minorities;
Remedial programs for schoolchildren with special needs;
Vocational training & retraining programs in the industrial, military, & business sectors.
Cognitive Enrichment as part of a classroom curriculum is aimed at enhancing students’ cognitive functions necessary for academic learning and achievement. The fundamental assumption of the program, based on the theories of Structural Cognitive Modifiability and Mediated Learning Experience, is that intelligence is dynamic and modifiable, not static or fixed. Thus, the program seeks to correct deficiencies in fundamental thinking skills by providing students with the concepts, skills, strategies, operations, and techniques that are necessary for functioning as independent learners. The program increases students’ motivation, develops metacognition, and helps them “learn how to learn.
Course Syllabus:
Introduction to the theory of Structural Cognitive Modifiability;
Introduction to the Theory of Mediated Learning Experience
Analysis of deficient cognitive functions in regular and special needs populations;
Criteria and principles of mediation;
Goal and sub-goals of the clinical and educational application of the FIE program;
FIE Lesson planning and preparation of “bridging” exercises;
Comprehensive instruction in the use of the following Feuerstein instruments: Organization of Dots; Comparisons; Analytic Perception; Orientation in Space I
Introduction to the digital version of the Instrumental Enrichment program.
The mastery of Cognitive Enrichment theory and instruments is evaluated by means of a questionnaire presented to the course participants on the last day of the course.
Prerequisites
The course is open to university students, educators, psychologists, clinicians, and other professionals interested in cognitive intervention. Applicants are encouraged to read in advance the theoretical material available at:
www.feuerstein-institute.org/resources/theoretical-materials
Learning Materials
Course participants will receive a set of 4 program instruments, Teaching Diagrams, and Page-by-Page Guidelines for teachers, and a manual for a key instrument: Organization of Dots.
Certification
Course participants will be awarded a Certificate of Cognitive Enrichment Mediator Level 1 (of 3) upon successful completion of the entire course requirements. The certificate is valid for four years from its issue date and is renewed subject to the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) conditions: a. Submittal of a verification form of program implementation to Feuerstein Institute https://feuerstein-institute.org/training/continuous-professional-development/
reflecting at least 30 hours of work with program instruments; b. Participation in annual online or “live” CPD seminars organized by the Feuerstein Institute and/or local Authorized Training Centers, or attendance of three additional Feuerstein courses.

Course Trainer
Lori Horner
Lori discovered the transformative power of Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment (FIE) during her first training in 2020 and quickly realized it was the missing piece in her work as an Educational Therapist. Inspired by its potential, she earned certifications in FIE 2 & 3, Basic 1 & 2, and Tactile over the following years. Lori has since seen the profound impact of Feuerstein’s method, working with individuals of all ages and across a wide range of cognitive challenges. Now, as an FIE Trainer, she is dedicated to expanding access to this life-changing methodology by training others to unlock cognitive potential.
